Abstract

Field and nursery experiment was conducted in 2013 and 2014 to investigate the influence of poultry manure and shea nut residue on growth, reproductive performance and yield of okra. Factorial combinations of poultry manure (0, 5, 10, 15 t/ha) and shea nut residue (0, 5, 10, 15 t/ha) were laid out in randomized design with three replicates. Data were collected on vegetative growth, reproductive and yield parameters. Results showed a significant (P<0.05) effect of poultry manure on growth, reproductive and yield parameters of okra. Poultry manure application improved growth, hastened flowering and podding and increased the yield of the crop. These effects were generally more (P<0.05) pronounced at application levels of 10 and 15 t/ha. The effect of shea nut residue on evaluated parameters was only marginal. Significant (P<0.05) interaction of the factors was not observed. It is evident that poultry manure has capacity to markedly improve performance of okra while the effect of shea nut residue under conditions of this experiment was only slight.
